Ocean mass, sterodynamic effects, and vertical land motion largely explain US coast relative sea level rise

چکیده

Abstract Regional sea-level changes are caused by several physical processes that vary both in space and time. As a result of these processes, large regional departures from the long-term rate global mean rise can occur. Identifying understanding at particular locations is first step toward generating reliable projections assisting improved decision making. Here we quantify to what degree contemporary ocean mass change, sterodynamic effects, vertical land motion influence observed tide-gauge around contiguous U.S. 1993 2018. We able explain tide gauge-observed relative trends 47 55 sampled locations. Locations where cannot potentially indicative shortcomings our coastal observational network or estimates uncertainty.

Coastal sea level rise in southern Europe and the nonclimate contribution of vertical land motion

[1] In this study, we extend the advanced approach of combining tide gauge and satellite altimetry data with supplemental equations from adjacent tide gauge records of at least 30 years of common data to investigate the relative importance of the nonclimate contribution of vertical land movement to the observed rates of sea level change along the coasts of southern Europe. The sensitivity tests...

Sea level rise in the Arctic Ocean

About 60 tide-gauge stations in the Kara, Laptev, East-Siberian and Chukchi Seas have recorded the sea level change from the 1950s through 1990s. Over this 40-year period, most of these stations show a significant sea level rise (SLR). In light of global change, this SLR could be a manifestation of warming in the Arctic coupled with a decrease of sea ice extent, warming of Atlantic waters, chan...

Sea-level rise at tropical Pacific and Indian Ocean islands

Historical and projected sea-levels for islands in the tropical Pacific and Indian oceans are a subject of considerable interest and some controversy. The large variability (e.g. El Niño) signals and the shortness of many of the individual tide-gauge records contribute to uncertainty of historical rates of sea-level rise. Here, we determine rates of sea-level rise from tide gauges in the region...

The sea-level budget along the Northwest Atlantic coast: GIA, mass changes, and large-scale ocean dynamics

Sea-level rise and decadal variability along the northwestern coast of the North Atlantic Ocean are studied in a self-consistent framework that takes into account the effects of solid-earth deformation and geoid changes due to large-scale mass redistribution processes. Observations of sea and land level changes from tide gauges and GPS are compared to the cumulative effect of GIA, present-day m...
